Some sad news....

So sometimes life happens and sad things happen. Sometimes things are not always the way we wish them to be. I have had my happy bubble burst this week. As soem of you may know, I had 2 cats--my 1 1/2 year old Calico named Callie, and about a month ago, we adopted a new baby kitten from my sister, Lauri. We named him Kobe and he is the brother to Callie. We got him because Callie needed a friend to play with because she was always trying to get out the door to go play with another girl kitty next door. Well, it took a couple of days for the 2 cats to adjust, but sure enough, they became the best of friends. They were always with each other--they ate at the same time, played all day, groomed each other, and Kobe always slept curled up with Callie. When I had to put kobe in the laundry room on Halloween so he wouldn't get outside, Callie curled up and waited paitiently by the door until he got out.

Well, on Tuesday of this week, I was rushing out the door to get to a doctors appointment. I put Carter in his carseat and was waiting for Richie to come out to the car. I was running a few minutes late (of course!) and was impatient for Richie to hurry. So thinking it would make him hustle, I started the car, and backed out of the driveway. Just in time for Richie to come out and see that our little Kobe was in the garage and I had run over him. Richie just stood there and watched, and I yelled at him to get into the car. I ran in to get Rich, totally hysterical by now. Rich came out and Richie was still standing there, frozen, looking at the kitty. Rich got Richie into the van and I took them to the sitters, and I insisted that Rich take kobe to the vet6. Poor Kobe never made it there. He was gone before they got there and the vet said they would bury him for us.

I bawled the whole time at my doctor's appointment, and the whole rest of the day. I just couldn't believe that I had done that, and I felt so horrible for Richie having to see that. He was really somber and quiet for most of the day, which really tore at my heart. So it has been a couple days, and we are slowing coming to accept the sad news. Callie, on the other hand, has not done so well. She has gone from room to room, crying non-stop. She ran outside for the first time in a month yesterday and I couldn't get her to come back from under the neighbors deck.

So we are now thinking that maybe my sister will let us have the last kitten from Kobe's litter. Richie said he was not ready for another cat, so we will just have to wait awhile. We will miss you Kobe!
